Ozone Razor 3.5

home : traction
Razor 3.5
The Ozone Razor is another race kite - that is a kite designed for kite buggy racing - like the Airea Raptor II 2.5. The kites are high aspect - that is long and thin, with very little thickness. Ozone have a reputation for making excellent kites throughout their product range and it shows on the Razor. Bridles are unsleeved and stitched - and are very thin to reduce aire resistance, the sail is made from waterproof coated fabric (given my record of managing to land kites in water this will be welcome!) and everything is finished very nicely.

I like my kites to look nice - even the traction ones - much to the dismay of some of the other local fliers. And the Razor scores very highly on this - only (in my opinion) beaten by the PKD Century Soulfly (another race kite similar to both the Raptor and the Razor). Pity I can't see the Razor design when I'm flying.....

Good Things

  • Excellent build quality.
  • Great graphics.
  • Very high performance - very fast in flight.
  • Very powerful but with little lift (this is a plus point for me - won't be for other people!).

Bad Things

  • This is a race kite - therefore it's long and thin. Which means it doesn't like gusty winds.
  • Can be hard to get the kite inflated upon launch.
  • Tricky to fly at times (partly due to it's speed, partly due to gusts).

Final Thoughts

Excellent! I'm very impressed with the Raptor II I got a couple of years ago so I was on the look out for another high performance kite. The Razor 3.5 isn't as large as I wanted (I wanted a kite in the 5m league) and isn't the perfect kite for inland gusty winds, but I wasn't going to miss this opportunity! The build quality of the Razor is fantastic - they really are well made, and from reports on the Internet do stand the test of time.

I'm looking forward to taking this one to the beach and having a blast.
