Revolution Fun 3 - Obstacles

home : quad tips

Make use of obstacles

If you are lucky (!) enough to have lots of obstacles on your flying field you can turn this to your advantage whilst Revolution flying. For example:

  1. Football posts 1 : try flying the Revolution through the goal posts, followed by you, then back again without the kite touching the ground. Once you have done this a few times try doing it quickly, or doing a clock turn, or.... you get the idea. If you are flying with friends see who can do this the fastest....
  2. Football posts 2 : stand in front of the posts then position the kite so it just goes behind the goal posts. Now fly to the top of the window and do a dive stop just below the horizontal top of the post. The flying lines start wrapping around the top of the goal post then (hopefully) the kite bounces back up.
  3. Trees : a variation of 2 above, but this time fly a ground pass with the kite just behind the trunk of a tree and bounce the kite lies off the trunk.
  4. Picnic tables : try doing a tip stand on each table in turn. If flying with friends work out a route and see who can tip stand on all of them the fastest with penalities for missed tables or if you crash into the ground.

What can go wrong

  1. Stuck kite : the obvious hazard! You may get the kite wrapped around the goal post / tree / other obstacle. Therefore take it easy at first - don't do anything too clever at first, and only do this at a height you can reach to - just in case you kite gets stuck. And be prepared to cut your kite out.....
  2. Rough edges : all these things are not kite line friendly - rust on goal posts, sharp twigs on tree etc. Therefore best not to use your nice new kite, or that best line set in case of damage (bouncing the kite lines off an obstacle does cause line wear - so beware!).
