Kite flying is a specialist passtime/hobby/sport/obsession (delete as appropriate) and there simply weren't enough people buying their kites from Fiveforty to remain viable. The cause of this is partly the massive increase in Internet trading - both the large on-line retailers and the second hand market from ebay and the 'for sale' sections on forums.

I am personally grateful the extreme hard work and dedication that Dave and Liz have put into both Fiveforty and the Sheffield Kite Fliers. I'm pretty certain that without their encouragement and advice (along with a number of kites!) I would not have reached where I am today. So I for one wish them both well for the future.

So if you are reading this and are lucky enough to still have a local kite shop please please please support them - sometimes that may mean spending a few pounds more. But at least give them a chance.......

As for me and others in Sheffield - we are now without a dedicated kite shop.
